  4. Sloop Software is pleased to announce the release of the Windows 3.1
  5. shareware replacement shell, CEO Lite.  CEO Lite is a replacement for
  6. MS Windows 3.1 Program Manager.  It offers all the major features of
  7. Program Manager plus a host of new features.  If you're looking for
  8. an easy to use replacement with all the features Program Manager
  9. should have had, give CEO Lite a try.
  10.  
  11. CEO Lite is a subset of the retail version of our program, CEO:Desktop
  12. Manager.  See the file orderfrm.txt to order either program.  CEO Lite
  13. is available for $35 and CEO:Desktop Manager is available for $50.  
  14. CEO:Desktop Manager includes several new features not found in CEO Lite
  15. and provides a printed manual.  For more info on CEO:Desktop Manager
  16. see the catalog.txt file or the end of this file.

  18. Installation (perform to install new versions, also):
  19.  
  20.   To install CEO follow the steps below.  
  21.  
  22.   1. Insert the CEO disk 1 into the appropriate drive.  Or, copy all files
  23.      into a temporary directory.
  24.  
  25.   2. From Program Manager or File Manager select the Run command and type
  26.      in a:install.exe.  If using the b drive, substitute a: with b:.  Or,
  27.      from the temporary directory, execute install.exe.
  28.  
  29.   3. Follow the install program's directions for installing the software.
  30.  
  31.   Should this process fail for any reason, follow the instructions for the 
  32.   manual install process in the trouble.txt file.
  33.  
  34.   If you are currently using the programs Sloop Manager or Folders, you
  35.   will be given the opportunity to import them into CEO.

  38. Uninstalling CEO:
  39.  
  40.   An uninstall program is provided with CEO to remove it completely from
  41.   your system.  To uninstall CEO run the program unstall.exe.  It will
  42.   remove all CEO files from your system and undo the changes made to the
  43.   WIN.INI file.

  46. CEO Lite's major features include:
  47.  
  48. *Create subfolders (subgroups) within folders, allowing you to create
  49. a tree structure of folders and subfolders.
  50.  
  51. *Password protection provided for individual folders or can be used 
  52. to lock people out of Windows completely.
  53.  
  54. *History menu which tracks the last twelve applications launched 
  55. from any folder.  This allows you to quickly re-launch an 
  56. application you wish to use again after closing it.
  57.  
  58. *Add items to folders by dragging files from the File Manager.  
  59. Launch programs by dropping data files on program icons where 
  60. the icons may either be icons in a folder or icons on the desktop.
  61. Print files by dropping them on Print Manager.

  63. *Multi-select capability provided when adding or deleting items.  
  64. Add multiple items at once or delete multiple items using two 
  65. different delete capabilities.

  67. *Launch multiple applications with a single action.  All items in 
  68. a folder may be launched at once or only selected items may be 
  69. launched by just hitting the enter key.

  71. *Includes run command with browse button.  The last twelve 
  72. commands entered are stored with no duplications for easy access.

  74. *Customizable popup run menu provided for quick access to 
  75. programs accessible from any folder or from the desktop.  Easy to 
  76. use menu editor included for building and maintaining run menu.  
  77. Menu items may be set to run minimized or maximized.  Also, 
  78. hotkeys may be assigned to menu items.

  80. *Assign hotkeys to items for quick launching.  In addition, 
  81. programs can be set to automatically inquire for a data file upon 
  82. execution.

  84. *Includes associate command similar to File Manager's, but CEO's 
  85. allows multiple programs to be assigned to a single extension.  
  86. Executing a folder item with multiple programs assigned to it will 
  87. cause a listbox to appear from which the desired program to be run 
  88. may be selected.

  90. *The install program included automatically builds folders from 
  91. your Program Manager groups and places them in CEO making 
  92. for quick and easy setup.

  109. Setting a subfolder icon using the item icon command will now cause the
  110. icon chosen to appear not only in the folder but also on the desktop when
  111. the subfolder is opened and minimized.  Note you should only set a subfolder 
  112. icon when the subfolder is closed.

  114. The 'Folder -' which precedes the name of every folder may now be 
  115. eliminated.  Add a line to the [Defaults] section of the ceo.ini file
  116. which reads:  Folder-=0
  117.  
  118. Any folder may now be specified as the startup folder upon Windows startup.
  119. Use the following command line when starting Windows:
  120.   >win *s[<folder name>]
  121. Replace <folder name> with the name of the folder to be used as the
  122. startup folder.  For example; >win *s[Debug Startup]

  126. ADDED FEATURES IN CEO:DESKTOP MANAGER
  127.  
  128. - Link to directory capability.  Once a folder is linked to a directory
  129. it will automatically add and delete folder items as files in the
  130. specified directory are added or deleted.

  132. - Set the background color of individual folders (icon mode only).
  133.  
  134. - Access the customizable run menu by simply clicking the mouse on
  135. the desktop anywhere.
  136.  
  137. - Set menu items to be accessed from the system menu of minimized folders.
  138.  
  139. - Display folders in a third additional display mode, button mode.  Folder
  140. items are displayed as buttons similar to a toolbar.
  141.  
  142. - Specify how items are to be sorted.  Sort by item name, file name or 
  143. file extension.

  145. - Turn on/off confirmation of deletions and saves.
  146.  
  147. - Set the icon used by the main CEO window when minimized.
  148.  
  149. - Trashcan utility.  Delete folder items by dropping them in the
  150. trachcan.  In addition, delete files by dragging them to the trash from
  151. File Manager.
